Creation's Labor

Creation’s Labor  3/18/2022

I heard creation groan today

She groans for us to know

That all are  of God’s breath

Made of love for only love.

I wonder if even the atoms

Of the very bombs that drop

Screech out for mercy for the world

For the children without a home.

I wonder if the creatures

The plants, the trees, the rocks

Cry out in their own tongues

For mercy from their God.

Can our prayers, oh Holy One,

Bring salvation from ourselves?

Our wordless groans rise up throughout

Creation’s battered soul.

Sophia come and rescue us

From insensibility and greed.

Though bombs are dropped and fires burn

We will hope in a newborn peace.
